Hello moms and dads, welcome back to another parenting blog post. It’s so lovely to have you here again! Today we are talking all about Pack N Play.
For those who just read that sentence and thought, what the heck is a pack n play, and how the heck do I clean it? You’ve come to the right place, my friend. Stick around, and I’ll let you in on all the details. In that case, I’ll stop rambling. Let’s get right into it!
What Is a Pack N Play?
Chances are, if you’re having a baby, a pack n play is probably going to make its way onto your gift registry one way or another. A pack n play is basically another name for a playpen for your little ones. Ah, now I see some lights going off! See, I’m here to help –it’s what I do!
Pack n plays are great for when you are traveling with your baby because it allows you to put them down for a nap wherever you are and keep an eye on them when trying to get some work done around the house.
And as much as we love pack n plays, they can become a real magnet for germs and bacteria to grow, which is the last thing you need getting near any of your children –especially when they are young.
The good news is that the pack n play itself is relatively easy to clean just by quickly wiping over it with a Lysol wipe or any other cleaning supply.
However, because they are mostly made out of mesh and other fabrics, if you want to deep clean the entire pack n play, it’s going to take a little bit of extra work. Lucky for you, I’ve mastered the cleaning process when it comes to cleaning a pack n play.
How to Clean A Pack N Play
Let’s go into some of the different methods of how to clean a pack n play. Find one you like and roll with it!
Scrub That Thing Down!
Like I mentioned before, if you want to quickly sanitize your child’s pack n play, the best and easiest way to do so is to scrub it down with a wet cloth or Lysol wipe.
If the crib comes with a mattress, you can remove the cover and throw it into the wash to make sure it’s clean. Then wash underneath the mattress pad just in case anything has fallen in. You can also take laundry detergent and scrub the crib down this way as well.
After you are done, rinse the entire crib outside with the hose and let it air dry before taking it back inside.
Kids are messy. We already knew this! If you want to avoid doing a deep clean every month, make sure to stay on top of any messes or spills that may happen!
Do a quick spot treatment with soap and hot water to allow the stain to lift quickly, and voila! You can also use a tide to go for smaller stains or some detergent if things get really messy!
Remember, look under the mattress as well. Trust me, you WILL find at least one smashed food item that is caked into the lining of your child’s playpen.
The Deep Clean
This is the mother of all cleans, my friends. The one that you have been waiting for. Regardless of if your child is super messy or not, I recommend doing a deep clean every couple of weeks to avoid the build-up of germs and bacteria as much as possible.
What you are doing to want to do is remove the mattress pad from the crib and fold it. Then place both pieces into your bathtub that is filled with hot water, ¼ cup of vinegar, and ¼ cup of baking soda.
Submerge the mattress and crib entirely underwater and let that shiz soak in for at least an hour –you’ll thank me later. After it has soaked for a while, spray it off, and let it air dry.
If you think your playpen is clean now, wait until you see the water’s color after you let it soak. You’ll be shocked, I know I was!
Why is Cleaning Your Pack N Play Important
Simply put, if your child is sleeping in it often, whether they are at daycare or you are traveling, you are always going to want to make sure that their bed is comfortable and clean as much as possible. You’d be surprised at how quickly mold can grow in the right environments.
So, it’s better to be safe than sorry! Remember, if you keep up to date with spot treatments, you won’t have to do a deep clean as often. However, I do recommend once a month just to be on the safe side.
Playpens are a great invention for parents on the go. But like anything, they do require treatment from time to time to keep the pack n play in mint condition for your little bundle of joy.
It’s always best to wipe it down at least once a day, primarily if your child often uses it to avoid any build-up of harmful germs and bacteria. We wouldn’t want your little one to become sick because of their playpen.
Follow the three cleaning guides above and clean the exterior and interior mattress pad for the best results. After that, you should be good to go! Use everyday ingredients that you have around the house, and voila! Happy and healthy baby guaranteed!
Thank again for stopping in this week, parents! It’s always a pleasure having you around.
